A Traveler's Guide To Historic California

Author Lynne Schaefer is a third-generation Californian whose interest in history began when, at the age of five, she listened to tales by her great-grandmother, who was born in a covered wagon on the Oregon Trail in 1861.

Born Lynne Richards in Martinez, California, a 1951 graduate of Richmond Union High School, she helped found the Contra Costa County Legal Secretaries Association in 1954 while employed at the Richmond law firm of Calfee, Moses, Calfee & Westover.

She wrote “The Schussboomer” ski column for the Richmond Independent (1953-1956) and for the San Rafael Independent Journal (1957-1959).

Lynne Schaefer’s newspaper and magazine articles have appeared in regional and national publications.  “Climb Aboard,” a weekend-getaway feature she wrote for steam train enthusiasts in Northern California, placed in the Top Ten in Writer’s Digest magazine’s national 1999 writing competition.
